The most memorable achievement during my tenure was leading governance efforts surrounding the Dream Big Transformational Initiative. Dream Big is a monumental $16 million capital campaign aimed at establishing a new STEM and leadership center at Camp Ken Jockety in western Franklin County. It is GSOH’s bold response to the Girl Scouts of the USA’s goal of putting 2.5 million girls in the STEM pipeline by 2025. Through this project, girls will have the tools necessary to create pathways to in-demand careers and bridge the gender gap in the STEM field. Even amidst the uncertainty of the Covid-19 pandemic when other non-profit organizations were scaling back, the Board took the courageous decision to move forward with Dream Big, which ultimately changed the project’s trajectory.
Throughout my career, community service has been a core aspect of what I do. I firmly believe that, regardless of where we are in our leadership or life journey, we all have the capacity to give back and pay it forward. I am grateful to Girl Scouts of Ohio’s Heartland, Medical Mutual, and Smart Business for this award, especially to GSOH President and CEO Tammy Wharton for nominating me.
For those interested in making a positive impact in their community, I encourage you to explore opportunities with the Girl Scouts. I often say that they had me at their mission: to build girls of courage, confidence, and character. The mission resonates deeply with me, and I am excited about the prospect of inspiring more individuals to become involved.
Together, we can empower and inspire the next generation of leaders.
